Animal Planet to air show about captive hunting
Jun 16, 2011
Many viewers of Animal Planet are likely to be enraged once they see a new documentary special on captive hunting, where animals - including endangered species - are hunted in Texas and even New York, according to a new report from Zap2It.
"I hope in every state in which it is legal to kill a captive animal that people will use this show, for which we are eternally grateful to Animal Planet for producing, and take it to their legislators and insist that this practice be outlawed," Mary Beth Sweetland, director of investigations for the Humane Society of the U.S., told the news source.
At the moment, the practice is ongoing and there are ranches where animals are hunted down. These facilities operate as a "covert industry," according to the news outlet. The industry makes about $1 billion each year.
The show is called "Animal Planet Investigates: Captive Hunting Exposed" and will be aired on Monday, June 20. Other programs on the network include Whale Wars, Lost Tapes, Bears! and Cats 101.
