Pet owners all think their pooch is the smartest canine on the block, but one California man may be able to prove it. According to WLWT.com, Sydnee, an Australian Shepherd who lives in Santa Barbara, can count to ten.
Maxine Davis, the owner of the barking brainiac, quickly discovered Sydnee's capabilities after adopting the animal rescue dog. The canine used to belong to a soldier who was about to be deployed to Iraq.
"I thought, 'That dog, she's just adding one finger, she's counting.' So apparently, she could count," Davis told the news source.
When told a certain digit, Sydnee barks that many times. She also can handle simpler tricks, such as sitting and rolling over.
Still, Davis believes that her dog's mental capabilities may even extend to the English language. If she doesn't want Sydnee to understand something, she often spells it out.
While all hound owners believe that dogs are smart, some breeds may be more intelligent than others. According to Petrix.com, the keenest dogs are Border Collies, Poodles and German Shepherds, respectively.
