Animal rescue shelter given 30 pound cat

Employees of the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society received quite the present when a 30 pound tabby cat was dropped off, reports WTen.com.

The animal rescue workers say the feline was abandoned in a nearby town and then brought to them. The cat's weight leads them to believe that she does have an owner, since it would be hard for a stray to gain that much weight on its own.

"We're sure someone is out looking for this cat," Brad Shear, Executive Director of the shelter, told the news source. "She is very friendly and obviously has a home."

Her full figure is most likely a result of overfeeding, which is the last thing owners want to do. According to the ASPCA, an overweight pet is more likely to develop health problems like diabetes, joint pain and liver disease.

The organization recommends watching your pet's food intake and making sure they get exercise. If needed, speak with your veterinarian about a weight loss plan in order to help your animal live a long and happy life.ADNFCR-2796-ID-19826014-ADNFCR
