Animal rescue shelters inundated with pets

Animal rescue shelters in Florida are encouraging people to adopt a pet and provide them with a loving home, mainly due to the fact that they are experiencing overcrowding, News 13 reports.

The rising costs of owning a pet are causing some owners to make a difficult decision, which most often results in them dropping their furry friend off at a shelter.

"You can't leave them behind. You can't leave them languishing without a home. We want a home, a pet needs a home," pet owner Sydney Weimer told the news source.

Weimer already has four rescue animals, but recently adopted another one, saying that the decision to take on one more pet was a no-brainer.

The Orlando SPCA used to receive about 20 animals each day, but that has grown to more than 30 each day as owners realize they can no longer afford their pets in this economy.

Americans are projected to spend an estimated $47.7 billion on pets this year, according to the American Pet Products Association.ADNFCR-2796-ID-19931094-ADNFCR
