A new video that shows two suffering polar bears has highlighted the current effects of global warming, The Telegraph
According to the news source, the two animals in the video, filmed in Hudson Bay, Canada, eventually succumbed to the all-too-warm conditions. The film was shot by the Center for Biological Diversity and is meant to bring attention to the issue.
"Global warming isn't a crisis that's decades away. It's here now," Kassie Siegel, director of the nonprofit, told the news outlet. "The sad truth is that polar bears are already starving as global warming melts the Arctic."
The main reason the creatures are going hungry is because the ice is melting earlier than it has in the past. The news source reports that the polar bear population has declined 22 percent from 1987 to 2004.
Polar bears depend on large sea caps to hunt, feed and survive. When the ice melts early, the animals are forced onto land and experience an extreme shortage of food.
