Coca-Cola holiday cans will be white this year to support polar bears

Polar bears have been the spokesanimals for Coca-Cola's holiday advertising for some time, and this year, the beverage company will be making efforts to donate to animals. This year, the iconic red cans will be replaced with white ones to raise awareness and money for the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to protect the Arctic environment in which polar bears live.

"The polar bear and the rugged arctic are enduring symbols of the Canadian north," said Coca-Cola Ltd. President Nicola Kettlitz. "'Arctic Home' strengthens our commitment to the polar bear, our focus on building sustainable business practices and our dedication to making a positive difference in the world."

Coca-Cola has already pledged to donate to animals a total of $2 million over the next five years, and they plan to match all consumer donations up to $1 million.

Polar bears spend the majority of their lives on the frozen Arctic sea, and their population is dwindling. The WWF reports that there are only about 20,000-30,000 of these bears left in the wild, and their habitat is threatened by global climate changes, human conflicts, oil development and shipping that break up the ice they rely on to hunt and survive.
