Dog poop powers street lamp

Dog poop - it isn't pretty, but at the end of the day, someone has to deal with it.

Thankfully, it looks as though the stinky substance is benefiting more than just the pups that leave it behind. According to the Associated Press, people who head to the Pacific Street Park in Cambridge, Massachusetts, can use their dog's waste to light a new street lamp.

The "Park Spark" poop converter, which was invented by artist Matthew Mazzotta, transforms the canine excrement into energy by harvesting its methane.

Not so surprisingly, it looks as though pet owners in the area have already taken to the new invention. Lindsey Leason, a 29-year-old Harvard student who is mom to two playful pups, admitted she is glad her dog's waste is being utilized for something good.

"Since I have to pick up dog poop a lot, I think I'd rather have it be useful," Leason told the news outlet. While

Cambridge may be the only city at the moment to discover a purpose for dog waste, pet owners in other locales should still be considerate of pedestrians. People are advised to bring along a pooper scooper with them at all times.
