An eight-year-old German shepherd mix was found struggling to survive in a six foot deep hole where she was abandoned. Luckily, James Beavers, a homeless veteran, heard her cries and shifted into action, reports PeoplePets.com
Mr Beavers saw a truck earlier in the day speed away from the site where dog was found. He heard her cries but could not figure out where they were coming from. After some searching he found the dog in a pit of oil, stagnant water and trash. He rescued the dog himself by using rope to pull her out.
"He had a blanket on her, and he was just beside himself. ... It's so strange how God works," Mr Beavers's friend, Sheila Zachar, told the source.
The dog was rushed to an animal rescue
hospital where she was put in emergency care because of her condition. She was bathed several times by doctors to remove the large amounts of oil that were in her fur.
They later learned the dog, whose real name is Harley, had been kidnapped from her home. Fortunately, she is doing well now and will return home soon.
The Humane Society of the United States is promoting a campaign to increase the visibility of animal cruelty cases. They encourage individuals to report any situations where an animal is being abused or neglected.
