It's widely known that Ellen DeGeneres has a soft spot for animals, and now the funnylady is once again lending her efforts to another great cause.
According to PeoplePets.com
, the talk show host is set to become the spokeswoman for Farm Sanctuary's Adopt-A-Turkey campaign, which asks American families to skip the staple bird during Thanksgiving in place of a more humane dinner.
"We are thrilled to have Ellen's support as this year's Adopt-A-Turkey spokesperson," said Farm Sanctuary president Gene Baur. "She is reaching millions of people with a critical message of compassion for all animals that is as contagious as her laughter."
Since 1986 the organization has rescued more than 1,000 turkeys during the holiday season and placed them in loving homes. DeGeneres is also asking people to donate $30 in return for a gift certificate detailing their efforts and a photo of the winged creature they saved.
According to its website, Farm Sanctuary works to protect farm animals from cruelty, inspire people to change their view of the way these animals are being treated, and promote a vegan lifestyle.
