Fox named Romeo found atop EU's tallest building

An animal rescue in the European Union's future tallest building involved a red fox named Romeo, who was found living atop the 72-story Shard building. The animal had been there for about two weeks, according to MyFox New York.

"It was unbelievable. To get up there the fox would have had to climb 71 sets of stairs and an old-fashioned ladder," Les Leonard, a pest control manager at London's Southwark Council, told the British news source, The Sun.

Romeo is believed to have been living off food left over by construction workers.

The Shard London Bridge is a building currently under construction in the U.K. and scheduled to become the European Union's tallest building upon completion in 2012. It will stand 1,016 feet tall with 72 floors and will feature "world-renowned restaurants, the 5-star Shangri-La hotel ...and the capital's highest viewing gallery offering 360-degree views," according to the building's official website.

"We explained to him that if foxes were meant to be 72 stories off the ground, they would have evolved wings," Ted Burden, founder of the Riverside Animal Centre, told the BBC.
