A German dog recently defied the odds and gave birth to a litter containing an astounding 17 puppies, the Associated Press
According to the news outlet, Etana, a purebread Rhodesian Ridgeback, is now a mom to eight female and nine healthy dogs, which she had on September 28 of this year.
"The birth of the puppies was very special. All puppies were born naturally, no cesarean was necessary," the canine's owner, Ramona Wegemann, told the news outlet.
Wegemann is happy but understandably exhausted from the workload required of her since the pups made their way into the world. Because Etana couldn't tend to all of her babies at once, Ramona was required to bottle-feed them with special milk.
Nevertheless, it appears as though she's thrilled that all 17 of the dogs made it.
"This is incredible and wonderful," Wegemann told the news provider.
While 17 pups is certainly astounding, it looks as though there's another animal out there who has Etana beat. According to RulingCatsandDogs.com, the largest cat litter ever was produced by a Burmese -Siamese feline who birthed 19 kittens.
