Harley motorcycle riders raise money for local animal rescue shelter

Schoch's Harley Davidson is hosting its 5th annual Build the Sanctuary Ride and Show to sponsor Camp Papillon Pet Adoption and Rescue Sanctuary Fund, reports the Pocono Record.

On July 16th, Motorcycle riders rode for 1.5 to 2 miles through the Poconos from Schoch’s Harley Davidson to the West End Fire Hall in Brodheadsville. The events at the final destination included music from Long Time Comin’ and a car and motorcycle show.

Proceeds for the event are going to the Camp Papillon Pet Adoption and Rescue Sanctuary. Camp Papillon is a nonprofit animal adoption and rescue organization that has a no euthanizing policy. They rely on people adopting their rescues in order to continue to take in more animals from Monroe County, Pennsylvania.

According to the American Humane Association, only 25 percent of dogs and 24 percent of cats that enter animal shelters are adopted. Often the number of companion animals coming into shelters can overwhelm the numbers being adopted and strain a shelter’s resources.

Businesses such as Schoch’s Harley Davidson look to ease this financial burden on their local animal rescue shelters.
