Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart have adopted a dog and her puppies after the pooch had been neglected, reports Boise Weekly
The dog's name is Barbie and she had an owner, but after the canine was hit by a car her owner neglected to take care of her and she was left to her own devices, along with her pup..
Troy Jackson, executive director of Northwest Animal Companions, told the news source that he was given permission by the dog's owner to care for Barbie and nurse the dog and her pups back to health. After a legal battle over whether or not Jackson actually had been given permission, all charges against him were dropped and it was decided that the dogs would not go back to their owner but would be available for adoption instead.
The story received the attention of the local press, and talk show hosts Oprah and Ellen DeGenres both covered the story. Luckily for Barbie, Ford and Flockhart fell in love with her and wanted to take her home.
Ford owns a home near the Wyoming, Idaho, border where he spends much of his free time.
"They've gone from rags to riches," Jackson told the news source of Barbie and her pups. "They'll live a better life than you and me ever will."
It is still unclear if the former owner of the dogs will face any charges related to animal neglect.
According to the ASPCA, about 5 million to 7 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year. When considering adopting a pet it may be wise to contact your local animal rescue
shelters instead of heading to a pet store.
