IFAW teams go around the world to rescue animals

Around the world,’s charitable partner International Fund for Animal Welfare responds to emergency situations, manmade and natural disasters.

In 2009/10 fiscal year, grants supported IFAW's disaster response efforts in Haiti, Taiwan, the Philippines, Chile, Iceland, and the Gulf Coast of the United States.

The efforts in Haiti (reported here) led to the treatment of more than 50,000 animals following the January 2010 earthquake.

ChileWhen the devastating February 2010 earthquake in Chile destroyed parts of the Centro de Primates Peñaflor, IFAW used funding from to help rebuild the center. The sanctuary holds over 150 rescued primates and receives no government funding.  The project, which is the only one of its kind in Chile, has virtually ended the illegal trade in primates as pets in the country as a result of its pioneering work.
