June is Adopt-A-Cat Month
Jun 4, 2011
The American Humane Association is helping to celebrate June, the official Adopt-A-Cat Month, sponsored by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
The Humane Association believes that people can ensure successful adoptions by budgeting well, becoming mentally prepared for welcoming a cat, as well as "cat-proofing" one's home. Veterinarian visits are also important to ensure a successful adoption.
"Regular veterinary care is critically important to the health and well-being of your cat. Getting your new cat to a veterinarian early will help make sure there are no underlying illnesses or injuries, and your veterinarian can work with you to develop a plan to help your new pet live the happiest, healthiest, longest life possible," said Dr. Larry Kornegay, president of the American Veterinary Medicine Association.
Even if one is unable to adopt a new pet, owners who already have a cat or dog can make sure that their animal is spayed or neutered. There are more than 93 million cats in the U.S., according to the Humane Society.
