Man rescues dog from canyon

Zak Anderegg was on a vacation and decided to visit the slot canyons along the Arizona-Utah border. As he propelled down into them, marveling at the wonders of nature, he came across an odd feature - a dog, KSL.com reports.

Anderegg was astonished, wondering how a canine ended up 350 feet below the surface. When he found the pooch, it was clearly dehydrated and in need of medical attention.

"Every single time I work it through my head, I come up with the same answer: someone put him there - left, abandoned," he told the news provider.

At first, he went to the local authorities who told him they would not send people out to perform an animal rescue. He could not believe he was rebuffed, so he took matters into his own hands.

The next day, he went back to the canyon with a cat carrier and a plan. He went back down into the canyon and managed to capture the pup with a set of ropes.

Anderegg's animal rescue effort paid off, giving the dog a second chance at life. He is still amazed at his discovery that day.

"I cannot believe that I found this guy down in this frickin' pothole in this canyon," he told the news source.ADNFCR-2796-ID-19879174-ADNFCR
