A dog who recently showed up to a Louisiana shelter was caught in a seriously hair predicament, PeoplePets.com
Ripley, an adorable poodle, had fur so badly matted that rescue workers could barely tell he was a dog at all.
"We don't know if someone put him there, or if he wandered there," My Heart's Desire co-director Tracey Lapeyrouse told the news outlet. "We had no clue what the deal was. But we immediately started rounding people up, knowing this was going to be a huge undertaking financially and time-wise."
After being sedated, Ripley was shaved and freed of more than two pounds of hair. He is now recovering well from his sores and is slowly putting on weight as he waits to be put up for adoption.
"He realizes that people are good, and loves for you to pick him up and snuggle with him," Lapeyrouse told the news outlet.
According to the Humane Society of the United States, more than six to seven million dogs and cats enter shelters every year.
