The recent Parade Your Pet Pageant was held in Midland, Michigan, for the seventh time in recent years, according to the Midland Daily News.
Denise Hufford is the downtown event coordinator for Midland's Downtown Development Authority. She commented on the upcoming events for dogs and animal lovers, including Dog Days of Summer, an event that will be held twice a month on Wednesday evenings.
"So every Wednesday evening in the summer people can stop by the dog park and have dog related fun. ...People love their pets," she told the news source. "It's a fun way to be outside in the spring, get fresh air, socialize with other pet lovers and just enjoy being a pet-owner."
Another upcoming event is the Bark in the Park, sponsored by the SOS Animal Rescue
There are more than 93 million cats and 77 million dogs who are household pets in the U.S., according to the Humane Society. Many more dogs and cats are in need of rescue and can be found at local shelters and animal rescue organizations. Pet owners should have their animals spayed or neutered in order to help decrease the animal overpopulation problem.
