A new rescue organization has been formed in Victoria, Texas, to help save and find loving homes for stray animals.
According to The Victoria Advocate
, Crossroads Pet Rescue
and Rehabilitation came out of an experience at a local pound by co-founder Chyanne Lakey.
"A friend and I went to the pound recently, and that's when it really hit home," she told the news source. "Someone had brought in a mom dog and her six puppies all because they didn't like the color of the puppies. So we decided to start this. We're just a group of volunteers wanting to do what we can do."
The group plans to work with other animal rescue
organizations and shelters to help find strays and abandoned pets a permanent home. They are also hoping to find volunteers who will help rehabilitate animals that may be injured.
"Our main objective is to give pets a second chance at life and help people who can't afford to adopt a pet with the adoption fees," she told the news provider.
According to the Humane Society, six to eight million pets are cared for by rescue shelters every year in the U.S.
