Sarge's Animal Rescue
group in Waynesville is anticipating the opening of a new adoption center with about 14,000 square feet of outdoor playing area for dogs, according to the Citizen-Times.com.
An adoption day will be held on Saturday, March 26, with food and activities for humans and dogs.
Many animals still need to be adopted from the Sarge center, as new arrivals continue to come in.
"This shelter is so small. They don't want to euthanize any animal they don't have to, but with the intake some days, it's more than they can bear. That's why it's so important to be there to take these animals out to our foster program," said Rosa Allomong, a board member at Sarge.
Every day, there are about 40 dogs and cats in Sarge's adoption list who need homes.
The new facility will give workers more space to show off the animals as well, on adoption days.
Those interested in helping animals in their neighborhood should contact an animal rescue shelter
and inquire into their needs. Some places need money, other food or old towels and supplies, while other places need more volunteers.
