Dry cat and dog food produced by a major Diamond Pet Foods plant is being recalled for possible salmonella contamination. Brands include Diamond Pet Foods, Kirkland Signature (Costco brand), Natural Balance, Wellness, and Apex Pet Foods.

On February 28th, Wellpet (makers of Wellnes® natural pet food, recalled a significant portion of canned cat food due to a deficiency in Vitamine B1, also known as thaiamine. Cats feed only the recalled food for several weeks are at risk of developing a thiamine deficiency.

On July 25th, Iams recalled two batches of dry Prescription Renal Diet Cat Food due to possible Salmonella contamination. Five-and-a-half pound bags of prescription dry food for cats from two specific lots were recalled.

Select Natural Balance Sweet Potato & Chicken Dry Dog Food has been recalled due to the possibility of Salmonella contamination. The recalled batch is determined by the "Best By" date of June 17, 2011. The dog kibble came in 5lb and 28lb bags.

On June 9, Iams (a Proctor & Gamble company) recalled Iams ProActive Health canned Cat and Kitten Food, all varieties of 3 ounce and 5.5 ounce cans, with "09/2011" and "06/2012" date stamps on the bottom of the can.
