P.A.W.S Animal Shelter in Bryson City wins $1,000 in prize money

The Bryson City, North Carolina, P.A.W.S. Animal Shelter won a $1,000 prize for making it into the second round of voting during The Animal Rescue Site’s $300,000 challenge, reports Smoky Mountain News.

In association with Petfinder.com, The Animal Rescue Site is having people vote on their favorite animal rescue shelters to win prize money.

A total of $75,000 is going to be given away during the third round of voting that is held from July 4th to September 18th, and the grand prize is a $5,000 grant, according to The Animal Rescue Site.

The P.A.W.S. Animal Shelter provides financial assistance for spaying and neutering procedures. It has fostered the adoption of more than 2,500 animals and claims to be the only animal shelter in the county.

The prize money will help its budget, which isn’t subsidized by the county government.

Shelters play a vital role in saving stray and unwanted pets, and they also reunite many owners with their lost pets.

Fifteen percent of dogs and two percent of cats that enter animal shelters are reunited with their owners, according to the American Humane Association.
