Pilot takes to the skies for animal rescue effort

One animal rescue team had sky-high aspirations when they attempted to help a special canine.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Pilots N Paws, an organization that matches pilots with pups who need transportation, saved the life of a puggle in Arkansas named Mr Muggles. The dog, who is a cross between a pug and a beagle, was on death row at an animal shelter.

"This little guy was on the short list," Melanie O'Brien, of IlMo Pug Rescue, told the news source. "He was going to be euthanized within days."

Mr Muggles' savior was Rick Hartley, of Marshall, Arkansas. He flew with his wife, Cindy, from the state to the Chicago area with the pup resting comfortably in coach.

"He was a good dog. He whined a bit when we first taxied, but there was not a peep while we were in the air," Hartley told the news outlet.

According to the Humane Society, between three and four million pets are euthanized in animal rescue shelters every year. People who want to add a furry companion to their family should think about heading to a shelter instead of a pet store. Adopting a dog can save its life!
