Pop singer Kelly Clarkson saves animals
Sep 23, 2011
In addition to singing, Kelly Clarkson recently reported that she owns and cares for about 50 animals on her ranch in Texas.
The American Idol-winner has a soft spot for sick, injured or abandoned animals, which has turned her home into what she now calls a "rescue ranch," Contact Music reports.
She has 30 dogs, 14 horses, goats and two pigs, the news source reports. Although she loves rescuing and caring for animals, she said that she will never own large species like elephants or tigers. Although there are sanctuaries for those animals in her state, she says that is not something she is looking to do.
Despite her large brood, Clarkson cannot be called an animal hoarder. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals reports that animal hoarding is characterized by a person owning more than the typical number of companion animals who is unable to care for them all. This inability to provide proper care would lead to poor conditions for the animals such as inadequate nutrition, sanitation and veterinary care.
