Angel is a seven week-old pit bull puppy that was born with no rear paws. Knowing few people would want a puppy with no paws, her owners reached out to Wags to Riches Animal Rescue
and Sanctuary for help, the Yakima Herald-Republic reports.
After contacting specialists across the country, Wags to Riches was able to find doctors in California to fit Angel with paw prosthetics, and she was soon on her way on a plane to the Golden State.
"It's an amazing chain of events for a seven week-old puppy with no feet," animal rescue volunteer Becky Pascua told the news source. "A lot of people came together for this puppy."
Specialists in pit bulls with special-needs volunteered their time. Furthermore, Pilot N Paws, a group of volunteer private pilots, helped transport Angel and shelter volunteers took care of her along the way.
According to consumer market research conducted by Packaged Facts, the market for pet supplies including assistance products such as mobility devices (harnesses, wheelchairs and footwear), was $4.3 billion in 2008 and is estimated to increase as pet life spans lengthen.
Today, technology and awareness is increasing to meet the needs of more special-needs animals to help them live long and lasting lives.
