Rescue U is in the running for Chase grant

Rescue U students at January rebuild. In early May, Petfinder.com Foundation advanced to Round 2 of the Chase Community Giving contest. When the voting begins on May 19, they hope to win $500,000 to benefit their Rescue U program.

In the Rescue U program, college students are sent to dilapidated animal shelters and work with members of the community to build new facilities, educate the community, and transport animals to shelters in the north to be adopted.

At the end of May, students from three universities will work at two Kentucky shelters in a project funded in part by The Animal Rescue Site and GreaterGood.org. Previously, in January, The Animal Rescue Site and GreaterGood.org helped fund a Rescue U trip to South Carolina (shown above left).

Petfinder.com Foundation signed up for the contest in early May, and quickly earned enough votes to finish at fourteenth out of 100 top non-profit organizations. The second voting round runs May 19 to 25, and the top prize is $500,000.

If they win, the Petfinder.com Foundation plans to set up an infrastructure of Rescue U chapters in colleges and universities all over the country. Foundation leaders believe that Rescue U has the potential to create the next generation of strong leaders in the animal rescue community and shows young adults that they have the capability to make a difference and create a better future for adoptable animals.
