CNN International is featuring the story of Purnima, a Room To Read student, as a lead-in to the documentary Girl Rising on June 16.
Purnima is one of the students supported by Room to Read’s Girls’ Education Program in Nepal.
After nearly dropping out of school, Purmina was able to finish secondary school through the assistance of Room To Read. In fact, she finished at the top of her class every year, said Sarah Susson of Room to Read.
Today, Purnima is ready for post-secondary school and plans to attend college. “She dreams of becoming a nurse and she may have a good chance to do just that,” said Susson. “Purnima’s story is truly inspiring and represents the experience of many girls in our program.”
GreaterGood.org supports Room To Read through contributions from The Literacy Site. The organization focuses on focus on two areas that can create greatest impact in a community: literacy and gender equality in education.
Utilizing local staff and local language materials in Asia and Africa, Room To Read works to develop literacy skills and a habit of reading among primary school children, and support girls to complete secondary school with the life skills they’ll need to succeed in school and beyond.
