Shelter animals need love too

If looking to add a pet to the family, there are many things that should be mulled over before choosing one.

Creative Loafing Atlanta recently covered this very subject and what potential pet owners should consider. There are several steps to the process, and taking on an animal is huge responsibility, so it would be best to do all of your homework before opening your home to one.

When looking to adopt from an animal rescue shelter, it is wise to spend some time with the pet in question and see how it reacts to you. Many shelters are very knowledgeable about the animals they care for, and will often give background information about their temperament and whether or not they're good with children.

If you want a rescue dog or cat but of a specific breed, there are organizations that cater specifically to those animals. In the end, you may be able to have the best of both worlds.

Every year six to eight million pets are cared for by animals rescue shelters in the United States, the Humane Society reports.ADNFCR-2796-ID-19913940-ADNFCR
