The Kitsap Humane Society commits to more animal rescues

While many companies are struggling in this economy, organizations are fighting to stay alive as well. One of those places is the Kitsap Humane Society (KHS), located in Silverdale, Washington.

Because of this, the dog and cat-friendly organization has said they are now focusing on solely rescuing animals rather settling noise disputes, according to the Port Orchard Independent.

"The idea is we're trying to move animal control to more of an animal rescue focus," Director of Operations Jake Shapley told the news outlet. "We want to make sure that a barking dog complaint doesn't take precedent over a reported animal cruelty."

The news source reports that last year, KHS responded to around 200 animal noise calls and 25 cruelty calls. However, Executive Director Sean Compton explains that they have evidence of dog fighting and horse abuse in the area and want to do what they can do stop it.

According to its website, the Kitsap Humane Society is a nonprofit that relies on the kindness and charitable nature of its community members in order to help animals in need.
