Tips for keeping your pet safe for Halloween

Halloween is fast-approaching and this time of year is especially exciting for kids and adults alike, but even your pets may want to get in on the action.

The North Shore Animal League America has come up with a few tips to keep your four-legged friend safe on Halloween night as children come knocking on your door.

Always make sure your pet has some sort of identification on them. Since the door will be opening and closing all evening as you pass out candy, your furry friend may run outside when they get the chance.

Another tip is to keep candy and decorations out of the reach of your pet. Many animals can get very sick if they ingest chocolate or other sweet treats, so it is best to keep those items on a high table.

Not all pets like being dressed up, so one should know whether their furry friend enjoys being in costume. If you do dress them up, make sure it is something that does not restrict their mobility or vision.

Also, with all of the excitement going on, it is best not to take your pet trick-or-treating. They may become overwhelmed and excited and could possibly attack someone if they get frightened.
