UK feline may be world's oldest cat

Pet lovers often want their cats to live forever, and it appears as though one animal in the U.K. is trying to do just that. According to the Daily Mail, a feline named Lucy may be 39-years-old.

Her current owner, Bill Thomas, welcomed the cat into his home after his wife's godmother passed away more than 11 years ago. However, it wasn't until a family member came to visit that the animal's true age was discovered.

"My aunt saw the cat and could not believe her eyes," he told the news outlet. "She could remember Lucy scampering around Maria's fish and chip shop when she was a kitten back in 1972. We knew she was old - but not that old."

If Lucy is truly 39, she would hold the title as the oldest living cat in the world. The news source reports that the previous record-holder was a feline named Creme Puff, who lived for 38 days and 3 days.

According to Vet-Info.com, the lifespan of cats varies depending on the breed. However, indoor cats can live up to six times longer than felines who reside outdoors.
