Walk 4 Animals to benefit local shelters and rescues in Leesburg, VA

This weekend, the third annual Walk 4 Animals will take place in Leesburg, Virginia. The walk's Facebook page states that donations will benefit more than 10 different animal rescues and non-kill shelters, and people can walk as individuals or teams to raise money to donate to animals.

"It's going to be a great family-oriented event," Traci Brosman, the coordinator of the walk, told The Daily Commercial. "We had nearly 1,000 people last year, and we're hoping for more this year. And we have a lot of different events for people to enjoy."

Last year, Jasper, a 3-year-old siamang ape, was the star of the event, and the news source reports that the small ape will make an appearance this year as well. Jasper is one of 22 exotic animals that were rescued and are cared for by Brad and Amy Osborne, the owners of Animal Preservation and Education Sanctuary in a rural area of Leesburg.

Aside from hanging with an ape, event guests who aren't walking for charity can enjoy a pet dress-up contest, a "doggie wash," inexpensive vaccinations, prize giveaways and other fun things to see and do.
