Yellow Lab saves abandoned kittens
Dec 6, 2011
When Reagan, a yellow Labrador retriever, came across a bag of kittens who were left to die in the middle of the road in Iowan, Iowa, he brought it all the way home to his owner, according to NBC affiliate WHO TV.
Reagan brought the Meow Mix bag home and whined until his owner opened it, the news source reports. Upon opening the bag, she heard faint cries and found two live kittens meowing, among others who had not made it.
"The instinct of the dog was to nurture and not kill the kittens... some dogs would have responded to the scent. Reagan the dog is a hero," Linda Blakely, employee of the Raccoon Valley Animal Sanctuary, told the news outlet.
The owner immediately called the sanctuary, which is now housing the two kittens, named Skipper and Tipper. Although they were not expected to live through the ordeal, they were bottle-fed every two hours and are now back to perfect health, the Digital Journal reports.
"Our slogan here is that we're living proof there is a way. These guys are testament to it," Blakely told the news source.
