Bluefin tuna stocks are being decimated due to the implications of the recent oil spill and to severe overfishing that's taking place in the Gulf of Mexico. One of the most sought-after fish in the oceans, the bluefin tuna now faces extinction mainly because of poor management of tuna fisheries. And with millions of gallons of oil now leaking into the Gulf each day, tuna populations face an extremely uphill climb back to safe levels.

Sign the petition below asking the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to act quickly, especially in light of the recent events in the Gulf of Mexico, and allocate more resources to help replenish the precious bluefin tuna population.

Dear NOAA Decision Maker:

As a concerned environmental advocate, I am worried about the health of the world's bluefin tuna population. It's an endangered species, yet overfishing and poor management of fisheries continue to take place even despite strong warnings against these practices.

Not only does overfishing threaten this species, but the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has proven only to exacerbate the problem, as the Gulf is one of the largest spawning grounds for bluefin tuna. Now more than ever is when we need to act in the name of these helpless fish.

I am writing to ask that you understand the urgency associated with this problem and effectively allocate the proper resources to restoring the bluefin tuna population. We must not wait until it's too late.

Thanks for your time.
