On a cold, rainy day I heard a faint "mew" coming from my back yard. I stepped outside and saw a tiny kitten shivering in the grass. "Kitty, are you all right?" I asked. Immediately the kitten turned and stumbled its way to me, rubbing its head against my foot and purring. One eye was crusted shut; it was wheezing with every breath. Clearly it was very sick.

I took it to the vet's office and showed it to the receptionist. "Can you save this kitten?" I asked anxiously."Or should it be put down?"

"Oh, we can save it,' she assured me. "But it will be difficult and expensive."

"Do whatever it takes," I told her. Four hours later I took a slightly better looking kitten home with me, along with medicine, special food and strict instructions. The kitten turned out to be a girl, and I named her Shiloh. She improved every day and became a happy, healthy kitten, now my faithful cat friend.

I'll always be grateful to the veterinarian for saving her--but I'm convinced she started getting better when she heard those few kind words and knew somebody cared
