Fergus

I was running to the drugstore to pick up a few things. I didn't have a lot of time, as I had a busy day of errands and housework scheduled.

It was a cold day in early spring and there was a young boy standing outside the drugstore with a box. I looked into the box - inside were five beautiful gray and black striped kittens, fast asleep. I resolved to call one of the local rescue agencies as soon as I got home so they could could follow up and make sure the kittens would go to good homes. We already had four cats at home, but I also knew that someone who will take a kitten from a box won't necessarily be the most responsible pet owner.

I learned that the kittens were 8 weeks old and that their mother had been a barn cat. They looked well fed and wonderfully healthy. Then one of the kittens woke up, stretched, and stood up on one of his siblings to look right at me and meow loudly. I had been chosen and I was hooked. I took him home that day and he has been a wonderful addition to our feline family. We named him Fergus, and he will turn 1 year old in April of this year.

I did follow up to make sure that his siblings got to the shelter and adopted by good homes. Meanwhile, Fergus gets along with the other cats beautifully, purrs like a motorboat, sleeps with us, and entertains us with his antics. Best result from a trip to the drugstore, ever!
