I.C. Doesn't Need to Growl

This is I.C. (Pronounced "Icy") After adding two other rescue dogs into our family, we decided that we had enough room for one more. We live in Anchorage AK and heard of a little guy in Fairbanks that needed our help. I.C. was found wandering in the northernmost town in Alaska and was taken south to the Fairbanks in hopes of finding him a home. He was adopted by a young couple who took him from the shelter directly to the groomers where he was completely shaved bald. Dogs like I.C. shouldn't be shaved because it makes it hard for them to regulate their temperature; the experience and aftermath was so horrifying to I.C. that he started to have seizures. After his first seizure, his "owners" took him back to the shelter stating, "We didn't want a broken dog." The shelter had no luck after that and gave him to a rescue in Fairbanks. It was then that we heard his story. It was so compelling to me that we made the 7 hour trip to meet him. We brought him home the first weekend that we met him; his hair was ratty, his eyes had large, brown circles around them, and he growled and snapped at everything. Our other two dogs were afraid of him, and we spent the 7 hour drive back to Anchorage with I.C. on my wife's lap, growling and barring his teeth for the entire trip. I.C. was obviously scared and defensive and we did everything we could to calm him. We spent the next 4 months working with him, and he is now a part of our pack that we could never do without. He's found his forever-home and is quickly learning that needing to growl is a thing of the past.
