Animal rescue comes in many forms and I got Georgie (dark kitten) from a breeder because he was getting "too old" to sell (he was only 6 months). He arrived with several problems, but is happy and well now! I also have a sweet Chihuahua boy (he is currently 14 years old) that was "rescued" from a pet store by my sister because he was so tiny his feet fell through the crate floor grating and he couldn't even stand up. It broke her heart and she bought him. I am lucky and thankful for my precious companions.

Because of my interest in animal welfare and protection I have incorporated it into my daily activities in small ways. One fun way I have done this is by assigning my college students a small writing/research assignment by using this website. They go to the website, click on "free food", then find a petition that interests them, research the topic and issues, write it up and present it to the class. Also I occasionally give them an extra credit option to visit an animal rescue facility of their choice, and again they visit, research, and write up a review. My students love this, and it always fits into class perfectly. Two students have become volunteers at rescue facilities!

Another thing I do is invite animal advocates to my church occasionally to educate the congregation about the tortuous life that mass production farm animals, laboratory animals, and other animals undergo. Often people simply have no idea of the pitiful, heartbreaking circumstances that exist. Collective action counts, so please let's all do some small thing to bring these sad conditions to light and step by step make changes for animals worldwide. Sign a petition today and everyday!
