I lost my 14 year old dog Tiki to cancer and was so heartbroken and grieving I said I would never get another dog. I would go on the internet and look at dogs to ease my pain. It ws the only thing that made me feel any better at all. One day a dog popped up that looked almost identical to Tiki. She was at a rescue organization 60 miles from me. A friend talked me into driving me there the next day and this scraggly, ribs sticking out 6 pound cutie hesitantly walked in my lap and kissed my face. I wrote the check...The gals at Rescue named her Lucy....She had been found wandering in traffic in Miami. She had been in rescue for over a month and I could not figure out why such a cute dog had not been scooped up. The next day the woman told me that they had nicknamed her 'Lucy Lawless' because every time they brought her to an adoption fair or someone came to look at her she went so crazy barking that no one dared take her. They said they couldn't BELIEVE it when Lucy just calmly came into my lap and kissed me...It was meant to be! My elderly Mom takes care of her when I am at work and once a week she goes to the doggy nannie at the vet where she plays all day with 15 other dogs of all sizes. She is the most loving and friendly animal I have ever met! My whole family and the entire neighborhood are in love with her. She is a fluffy 10 pounds now!
The Animal Rescue Site focuses the power of the Internet on a specific need — providing food and vital care for some of the eight million unwanted animals given to shelters every year in the U.S., as well as animals in desperate need around the world. Over four million animals are put to death each year in the U.S. alone because they are abandoned and unwanted.
