The young man pulled into our work parking lot at noon…went to the back of the parking lot which is backed up by the Grand River. He and a dog got out, walked around a little bit, than the young man got back into his car and left….yep, left his dog.

At first we were all outraged…how could he do this?? We went out into the parking lot to see about this abandoned dog…he was limping. His front right leg had been broken, but otherwise seemed in perfect health. He was friendly and glad to see us, and the more I thought about the young man, the more I begin to think that he did the best he could do for his furry buddy.

He came into the parking lot at noon, knowing it was lunch time and his buddy would be quickly found. I am sure he couldn’t afford the vet for his dog’s leg and even if he had taken it to the shelter…he would have had to pay money and he knew that the shelter would have put him down. He was part Pitbull. So a Pitbull with a broken leg wouldn’t have been given a chance by our local shelter.

Another woman was going to take him, but at the last minute changed her mind. So, Barley came home with me. We were only together a little more than 8 years before Cancer struck and Barley went to the Bridge soon after diagnosis. But Barley started me on the path to rescue. I lost two other furbabies in the past two years to cancer since Barley’s departure. But I still believe in rescue and want every animal to know a loving home. Now Hooper and Tessie fill my house with love.
