Quaker parrots are loyal and love one person fiercely. they have distinct, comical personalities. I learned that when we found Buddy, injured, walking in someone's yard, unable to fly, after Hurricane Wilma. For 8 years, he was my sweetie. He let me hold him and kiss him and did little dances, while lifting his wings when I gave him a "shower", (warm water in a spray bottle). His cage was next to my TV couch and he would squawk at me to put my fingers in so he could nibble on them and perch on them. The night before he passed, he wouldn't leave my hand, to the point where I actually said to him, "What, are you dying or something?" I knew it; I just didn't want to believe it. I knew he was giving me as much affection as he could before he left me. I miss him terribly and keep expecting to see him in his cage, but it's empty now. Fly free at the Rainbow Bridge, Buddy. You will nibble on my fingers again someday.
The Animal Rescue Site focuses the power of the Internet on a specific need — providing food and vital care for some of the eight million unwanted animals given to shelters every year in the U.S., as well as animals in desperate need around the world. Over four million animals are put to death each year in the U.S. alone because they are abandoned and unwanted.
