Put no antifreeze in the Bentley!

On a Friday evening at Veterinary Emergency Services where I work 11/05/10 is where Bentley's story begins. Around 9pm Bentley's first owners bring in a 9 week old boxer puppy for difficulty walking (ataxia), and vocalizing as if in pain. After a brief history from his owners our doctor on duty wanted Bentley checked for antifreeze toxicity, the test was done and immediately popped POSITIVE. What this meant for Bentley was either 72 hours of hospitalization or humane euthanasia, Bentley's owners opted euthanasia due to financial constraints. As the employee who had been with this sick puppy from the moment he came in I couldn't allow it, Bentley's owners signed all rights over to me! Now I'm the proud owner of a 9 week old puppy that may or may not survive the next 72 hours of treatment, after a long anxious weekend Bentley SURVIVED and has been a well loved member of our family since! To return his gift of life, Bentley is a blood donor dog at my clinic to help others in need!
