My best friend was dying of cancer. She asked to keep my Chihuahua at her home with her and her two dogs while I worked all day. When the time came and her son was going to take her dogs and my Honeyfoot was coming home to me she worried that he’d be lonely all day. She went to a shelter and picked out a scruffy little brown girl who had come from the city pound to the no-kill facility. She didn’t tell me until the dog was home and she knew I couldn’t say no. I was irritated but held my tongue. Of course I fell in love with my beautiful and sweet Sasha and so did Honey and all the cats. In one of our last conversations my friend said “She’s going to have a long and happy life, isn’t she?” I could only nod. She will and she does.
