Sir Chance-A-Lot

In August 2009, I had to put down my 13 year old Golden Retriever, Missie. She'd been with me since I was 14 and she was a puppy, and we'd basically grown up together. I was devastated.

After a month, my Mother suggested that I look into adopting another dog...a "dog person" just cannot be dog-less. :) I began looking on shelter websites and rescue sites, and then one day, I came across a photo of a little dog with the biggest ears I'd ever seen- a Chiweenie named Sir Chance-a-Lot.

Chance is a true rescue story. He was found completely by "chance," only about 2 months old, in a box next to a dumpster. He had Parvo and was nearly dead, and he was covered head to toe in ants. A girl named Laura just happened to be walking to her car one day and had a gut feeling she should look into the box. She also just happened to be a veterinary technician and runs a canine rescue outside of Fort Worth. She took him him and nursed him back to health. He went home and to the veterinarian's office with her every day, so he could be constantly monitored. The Parvo was advanced and the ants had eaten him raw. Over the next few months, he recovered and Laura named him Sir Chance-a-Lot, in order of the unlikely set of chances that led to his survival.

When I saw Chance's big ears and heard his story, I fell head over heels. When I went to see him in person, Laura put him down on the floor and he ran straight to me and jumped into my arms, where he's been ever since. :) I call him my little Miracle Puppy, and he really is!
