Small and in charge

My wife and I finally bought a house and I had promised her when we did she could have a cat. She spent many weeks going by the local rescues and never seemed to find "The one". One day on the way home from work I stopped by the local pet shop, to check out the latest arrivals. A small yellow eyed tortie caught my eye. She had what I thought we very interesting markings, but when I picked her up she was just so soft. That night I went home and told my wife I had found her cat. We went back to the pet shop and I pointed out Haley to her. She was not impressed and said that this cat was not what she was looking for. I told her not to judge to hastily and got a clerk to hand her to my wife. My wife was surprised with how soft she was and Haley snuggled into her neck and my wife was a goner. It did not take her long to settle in and she became my wife's constant companion. She never got very big only weighing in at 8lbs when she was fully grown.
We got other cats along the way but the little queen was always in-charge, There is nothing more intimidating than getting the yellow stink eye from a tortie. All the other cats although out weighing her by many pounds never disrespected the princess or there was a price to pay. She was my wife's best friend and queen of the house for 12 years. She had developed thyroid then heart problems and passed in the night at home where she was loved and still is.
