Spooky chose me!

Right by where I live, there is a thrift shop named Re-Tail. They are partnered with a local pet rescue named Pet Save, and when you visit the shop, cats are free to roam throughout and greet the customers. They are also available for adoption. After a bit of convincing, my boyfriend and I visited the shop.

We checked out the wares for a little while before I went to ask about the cats. There were a few present that day: a Russian blue by the name of Smokey, a large, orange tabby by the name of Creamsicle, and this small, white and grey little girl named Spooky. The other two absolutely loved the attention; Creamsicle even tried to climb up onto me! But it was Spooky that caught my attention.

I was in the middle of a forest of second-hand clothes when I noticed that Spooky was hanging out by herself in the middle of the aisle. I slowly approached her, crouched and held out my hand. I softly said, "Hi little girl," and she sniffed it, and gently pressed her face into my hand. I felt an immediate connection with this small, fluffy cat, and when one of the volunteers noticed that Spooky was letting me pet her (purring, might I add), she said, "She never lets anyone touch her. You must be special!" I then found out that she had been given up twice and was only just recovering from severe depression. My heart broke for her, and I knew she was mine the moment her little pink nose booped my hand.

A few weeks later, I went in and adopted her, making her my first kitty. She has so much love to give, and despite being a little skittish, she is an absolute doll.
