We decided to get a rescue dog to keep my elderly mum company during the day. We went to the local SPCA and we had a list of pre-requisites. The dog had to be young, a female, not too timid and not too large. We looked through all the cages and it was fairly upsetting with all the barking of dogs that wanted to get attention. In one of the last cages, we saw a Staffy cross and my sister thought she looked nice. We looked for details on the name cards and I saw that there were supposed to be two dogs in the cage. The other was a young, female, Jack Russell cross. As we looked to the back, this skinny, little, timid angel emerged and came to greet us. She licked my finger when I put it through the wire to stroke her nose - so we knew she was the one.

Sunny came home with us shortly afterwards and we have now had this darling in our lives for 4 years. She is more my dog than my mum's - but she still keeps my mum company during the day. She is so excited when I get home each day. She is not timid anymore and trebled her weight to around 60 pounds. She is a Jack Russell cross Italian Greyhound and is a really fast runner and she loves her walks. She is so fussy with her food and one would think a rescue dog would be happy with any food. She loves all her doggy treats though. She is a much loved family member, and the light of our lives. She rescued us as much as we rescued her.
