The Reunion of Foxy and Gunther

In December of 2014, we had to say good-bye to our 15 year old JRT, Xena. My husband was inconsolable. She was his doggie soul-mate. He told me that it would be a while before he could consider adopting again. It would have to another JRT and he would have to pick it and look into its eyes. Two days later, we were in Georgia visiting his parents. Imagine my surprise when I came down one morning to have him announce, "Honey, I found our next dog!" He had initially saw Gunther on this local rescue site. He found out too late that Gunther had been adopted recently. He also noticed from the same rescue, a fox terrier mix and was told she was still available. By the end of the day, we had Foxy. We also were told that Foxy had been very attached to Gunther and they had hoped that the two would be adopted together. They had been pulled together from a high-kill shelter on the day Foxy was to be euthanized. Sadly, the woman who facilitated the adoption passed away suddenly and this left the all the rescue work to her husband. 11 months later after adopting Foxy, I was browsing the rescue site when I noticed Gunther listed for adoption. We quickly inquired and were told that, yes, he was available and it was no problem for us adopting him knowing we had his playmate. We also found out that Gunther had been adopted and returned twice. Back to Georgia we went. It didn't these two long to fall into a playful routine. My husband said he feels his heart is healing now that Gunther is in our family. They say "third time is a charm." In Gunther's case, I believe it. We often wish that the woman who gave us Foxy had lived to see their reunion. Maybe, in some small, unexplainable way, she did have an angelic hand in this. I don't why I chose that particular day to visit the website. But I did and Gunther is now in his forever home.
