Working dogs deserve retirement in a loving home, not euthanasia!

Tell the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait, US ambassador to Kuwait, the U.S. Department of Defense, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture to end the killing of working dogs in Kuwait!

Sign now and demand that all working dogs are put up for adoption to loving homes and not euthanized after their work is done. We must insist on an amendment to the Animal Welfare Act to protect these dogs that provide an invaluable service. Our government should refuse contracts with any company that defies this.

Eastern Securities, a US-owned security firm in Kuwait murdered 24 bomb-sniffing working dogs after they lost a contract with Kuwait National Petroleum Company(KNPC). The slaughter went viral and the photos immediately enraged people across the world. The photos showed all 24 dog bodies piled up in a corridor. One of the images showed a man resting his foot on one of the bodies. [1]

Former employees of Eastern Securities believe the company killed its own dogs in order to save money after a contract was pulled, and one lawyer and animal activist in the region believes the dogs may have been killed out of revenge. Eastern Securities officials claim the dogs were old and sickly. [2]

"The killing was not done by a licensed veterinarian and allegedly, the medicine used was not made for dogs, causing an excruciating death," said a representative of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals International. "Instead of a comfortable couch retirement, they were slowly and methodically murdered." [3]

This horrific slaughter raised awareness and immediate need for an amendment of the Animal Welfare Act to include working dogs. This would prevent any US-owned company from killing working dogs. There needs to be clearly stated conditions on how working dogs are to be taken care of during their work and put up for adoption when retired. The companies need to have annual inspections and work with animal welfare or local shelter to help adopt out retired dogs.

The dogs are sniffing out bombs and saving lives so the least we can do is make sure they retire into a loving home. Do not let other dogs suffer or die because they are no longer needed.

Help us put an end to heartless killings of working dogs. Sign now!

The Petition:

To: the US ambassador to Kuwait, the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of Agriculture:

The senseless killing of working dogs needs to end now! The dogs are vital in saving lives and deserve respect.

Working dogs deserve a loving home to retire to after they have completed their work. The Animal Welfare Act needs to be amended to include working dogs. Under that act the dogs will be properly taken care of and then adopted to loving homes for retirement.

Killing working dogs is inhumane and greedy companies that do it to save money need to be prosecuted. Any company that does not comply with the set standards is denied contracts.

Please act now to ensure that other working dogs are not victims of greed.

Sincerely,
