Denning polar bear mothers and cubs risk being crushed to death as oil companies push into the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Help stop an industrial invasion of polar bear country.

As the Trump administration advances its plan to sell out the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to big oil, one oil services company already has a deadly foot in the door.

SAExploration, Inc. recently applied to conduct seismic testing in the biological heart of the Arctic Refuge this winter, in critical denning habitat for imperiled polar bears. SAEX plans to run 24-hour operations with massive crews of people and vehicles dragging equipment across the refuge's coastal plain, causing extensive noise, vibration and damage. They'll deploy 90,000 pound "thumper trucks" to send shockwaves into the fragile tundra.

The effect on polar bears could be devastating, especially during denning season. Seismic activity could disturb over 96 percent of denning habitat on the coastal plain, causing mother bears to abandon their dens and leave cubs alone to die in the cold and dark. There is also the chance that the huge vehicles could drive right over den sites, potentially crushing mother bears and cubs.

If seismic exploration goes forward in the Arctic Refuge, with destructive oil drilling to follow in its wake, the result will be a cataclysmic desecration of this treasured wilderness, and the potential extirpation of threatened polar bears from the region.

If we can stop them, we can slow down or even prevent the oil invasion. Tell SAEX to withdraw its bid to conduct seismic testing in the Arctic Refuge. But please hurry, time's running out to stop them!

The Petition:

To Whom It May Concern at SAEX:

SAExploration, Inc. recently applied to conduct seismic testing in the biological heart of the Arctic Refuge this winter, in critical denning habitat for imperiled polar bears. But seismic exploration is the first step toward destruction of the refuge. It would have a severe impact on polar bears, which are already listed as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act.

24-hour operations with massive crews of people & vehicles dragging equipment across the refuge's coastal plain will cause extensive noise, vibration and damage. The effect on polar bears could be devastating, especially during denning season. Seismic activity could disturb over 96 percent of denning habitat on the coastal plain, causing mother bears to abandon their dens and leave cubs alone to die. There is also the chance that vehicles could drive right over den sites, potentially crushing mother bears and cubs.

As you know, polar bears are already heavily impacted by climate change. As Arctic sea ice continues to retreat, these animals are increasingly forced to den onshore in the Arctic Refuge. This puts them directly in harm's way for SAEX's proposal.

We urgently request that SAEX withdraw its bid to conduct seismic testing in the Arctic Refuge immediately.

Sincerely,
